The remains of this substantial dwelling indicate that it would have been inhabited by a very wealthy family. There are 2 well preserved bathhouses, hypocausts (which clearly demonstrate how the Roman invention of under floor heating worked), beautiful mosaics, a latrine, and a museum housing objects from the villa. A really entertaining audio guide for children (ages 6+) is available which features a brother and sister living in the villa in Roman Times. Amongst other things, they will learn how the Romans managed before toilet paper was invented! Try to coincide your visit with one of the Living History Days where you can join in with demonstrations of day to day Roman life. Children's activities during school holidays. Pushchairs are admitted although there are quite a few steps to negotiate. There are good walks in Chedworth Woods and along the disused railway track.
