Brunel's masterpiece of ship design is housed in the original Great Western Dock in Bristol, where she was built in 1843. Go 'underwater', to stand below the ship's impressive hull and propeller. Step back in time in Dockyard Museum and try your hand at preparing ship for sail. On board, explore cabins and crew quarters and try your hand at controlling ship's massive recreated engine. Choice of audio guides bring ship to life (of interest to the older child. There are also lots of regular activities including Mr Brunel himself visiting his ship, art and craft workshops, and children's ship trails. Excellent website to explore prior to your visit, or call for activity and event times. All daytime events and audio companions (including Sinbad the Ship’s Cat for children) are included in admission. With tickets giving FREE unlimited return visits for a year, Brunel’s ss Great Britain is excellent value for money! Family tickets include two adults, and three children, and under-fives are free. New for 2009, are the ‘grandparent’ and ‘mini’ family tickets – also ideal for childminders.
